Türkiye offers a rich blend of culture and history, making it an appealing destination for some Nigerians. As a significant player in global tourism, it attracts millions of visitors each year with its diverse natural landscapes and cultural heritage. This allure may resonate with a segment of Nigeria's population of 219 million.
Türkiye is generally considered safer for tourists compared to Nigeria. According to safety rankings, Türkiye is 31st out of 40 European countries for safety while walking alone at night, though specific data for Nigeria is not available. The Global Peace Index places Türkiye at 137th out of 160 countries, while Nigeria ranks 144th, indicating that Türkiye is relatively safer. In terms of crime statistics, Türkiye has a significantly lower murder rate of 2.5 per 100,000 people, compared to Nigeria's 22.0. Regarding organized crime, Türkiye scores worse in some areas (e.g., mafia groups and state crime) but is still safer overall than Nigeria in various categories, such as human smuggling and fauna crime. While no destination is without risk, tourists from Nigeria can generally expect a safer environment in Türkiye. It is advisable to remain aware of local conditions and follow safety guidelines while traveling.
