Saudi Arabia is increasingly appealing to Nigerian visitors due to its rich cultural heritage and important religious sites. The country is investing heavily in tourism infrastructure as part of its strategy to diversify its economy beyond oil, making it a more attractive and multifaceted destination for a segment of Nigeria's 219 million population.
Saudi Arabia is generally considered safer for tourists compared to Nigeria. According to the Global Peace Index, Saudi Arabia ranks 100th out of 160 countries, while Nigeria ranks 144th. The murder rate in Saudi Arabia is significantly lower at 0.8 per 100,000 people, compared to Nigeria's 22.0. In terms of organized crime, Saudi Arabia has lower indices in several categories, such as mafia groups (3.0 in Saudi Arabia vs. 5.5 in Nigeria) and foreign crime (3.0 vs. 7.0). However, both countries face challenges with state crime and human trafficking, with Saudi Arabia scoring 8.0 and 8.5 respectively. Overall, while no country is without risks, Saudi Arabia presents a safer environment for tourists from Nigeria based on crime statistics.
