Saudi Arabia is increasingly appealing to visitors from Cameroon due to its rich cultural heritage and important religious sites. The country is actively diversifying its economy beyond oil by investing in tourism infrastructure, making it a more attractive and varied destination. This could interest a segment of Cameroon’s 28 million population.
Saudi Arabia is generally considered safer for tourists compared to Cameroon. According to the Global Peace Index, Saudi Arabia ranks 100th out of 160 countries, while Cameroon ranks 135th. In terms of murder rates, Saudi Arabia has a significantly lower rate of 0.8 per 100,000 people, compared to Cameroon's 4.5. The Global Organized Crime Index also indicates that organized crime is less prevalent in Saudi Arabia, with lower scores in several categories, such as mafia groups (Saudi Arabia: 3.0 vs. Cameroon: 4.0) and foreign crime (Saudi Arabia: 3.0 vs. Cameroon: 6.0). However, both countries have similar scores for state crime (8.0). Overall, while both countries face challenges, Saudi Arabia presents a relatively safer environment for tourists from Cameroon.
