Cameroon presents a compelling destination for some Saudi visitors, thanks to its rich cultural heritage and diverse natural attractions. As a key part of the country's economic development, the tourism sector plays a significant role in exports. With 4.8 million Saudis traveling abroad annually, a portion may find Cameroon appealing for its unique experiences.
Cameroon presents certain safety concerns for tourists, especially when compared to Saudi Arabia. According to the Global Peace Index, Cameroon is ranked 135th out of 160 countries, while Saudi Arabia ranks 100th, indicating a higher level of safety in Saudi Arabia. In terms of crime statistics, the murder rate in Cameroon is significantly higher at 4.5 per 100,000 people, compared to Saudi Arabia's rate of 0.8. Additionally, female murder rates also reflect this trend, with Cameroon at 2.3 and Saudi Arabia at 0.3. The Global Organized Crime Index further highlights disparities, with Cameroon scoring worse in various categories, such as crime networks (7.5 for Cameroon vs. 6.5 for Saudi Arabia) and state crime (8.0 for both, but with other indices showing Cameroon's higher vulnerability). Overall, while tourists can visit Cameroon, it is advisable to remain vigilant and informed about local conditions, as safety levels do not match those of Saudi Arabia.
