New Zealand's stunning natural beauty and rich cultural heritage make it an appealing destination for Malaysian visitors. Although foreign tourist numbers have varied, spending trends indicate significant opportunities in the tourism sector. A segment of Malaysia's 34 million population may find New Zealand particularly attractive.
New Zealand is considered a safe destination for tourists, including those from Malaysia. According to the Global Peace Index, New Zealand ranks 4th out of 160 countries, making it one of the safest in the world, while Malaysia ranks 10th. In terms of crime statistics, the murder rate in New Zealand is higher at 2.6 per 100,000 people compared to Malaysia's 0.7. However, New Zealand has lower scores in various organized crime indices, indicating a safer environment in areas such as state crime (1.5 for New Zealand vs. 6.0 for Malaysia) and resource crime (1.5 vs. 5.5). Overall, while New Zealand has some crime, it remains a safer option for tourists compared to Malaysia based on these metrics.
