Nepal is an appealing destination for some Thai travelers, thanks to its rich culture and stunning natural scenery in the Himalayas. While the country has faced challenges in attracting consistent international visitors, a portion of the 10.4 million Thais who travel abroad annually may find Nepal an intriguing option.
Nepal is generally considered a safe destination for tourists, including those coming from Thailand. According to the Global Peace Index, Nepal ranks 78th out of 160 countries, which is comparable to Thailand's ranking of 73rd. In terms of crime statistics, Nepal has a lower murder rate of 2.1 per 100,000 people, compared to Thailand's rate of 4.9. While the Global Organized Crime Index indicates that both countries face challenges, Nepal tends to have lower scores in areas like human trafficking and drug trade compared to Thailand. For example, Nepal's score for heroin trade is 4.5, while Thailand's is 7.5. Overall, while no destination is without risk, Nepal offers a relatively safe environment for tourists.
