Mauritius is an appealing destination for Indian travelers due to its stunning beaches, lush scenery, and rich cultural diversity. With 8.6 million Indians traveling abroad annually, a segment of this population may find Mauritius an attractive option for leisure and adventure.
Mauritius is generally considered a safe destination for tourists, including those from India. According to the Global Peace Index, Mauritius ranks 22nd out of 160 countries, significantly safer than India, which ranks 114th. In terms of crime statistics, the murder rate in Mauritius is 2.6 per 100,000 people, slightly lower than India's rate of 2.9. Additionally, female murder rates are also lower in Mauritius (1.8) compared to India (2.5). The Global Organized Crime Index further supports this view, with Mauritius scoring better in several categories related to organized crime. For example, the index for mafia groups is 2.0 for Mauritius versus 3.5 for India, and for arms trafficking, Mauritius scores 2.0 compared to India's 5.5. Overall, while no destination is without risks, Mauritius presents a safer environment for tourists compared to India based on these metrics.
