India offers a rich blend of cultural heritage, natural beauty, and modern amenities, making it an appealing destination for visitors. With around 100,000 Mauritians traveling abroad annually, a portion may find India particularly attractive for its historical landmarks and diverse ecosystems.
India is generally safe for tourists, but it is important to note that it ranks lower in safety compared to Mauritius. According to the Global Peace Index, India is ranked 114th out of 160 countries, while Mauritius ranks 22nd. In terms of crime statistics, the murder rate in India is slightly higher than in Mauritius, at 2.9 per 100,000 people compared to Mauritius's 2.6. Female murder rates also reflect this trend, with India at 2.5 and Mauritius at 1.8. The Global Organized Crime Index indicates that while both countries face challenges, Mauritius generally has lower indices for various crime categories. For instance, Mauritius scores better in mafia groups (2.0 vs. 3.5) and human trafficking (4.5 vs. 7.0). Overall, while tourists from Mauritius can travel to India safely, they should remain vigilant and informed about local conditions and safety practices.
