Lithuania stands out as a unique destination within the Baltic region, offering a diverse range of attractions for international travelers. While it may not attract the same volume of tourists as major European destinations, it presents interesting opportunities for Indian visitors. With 8.6 million Indians traveling abroad annually, a segment of this population may find Lithuania appealing for its vibrant culture and distinct experiences.
Lithuania is generally considered a safe destination for tourists, including those from India. It ranks 31st out of 160 countries on the Global Peace Index, indicating a relatively high level of safety compared to India, which ranks 114th. In terms of walking alone at night, Lithuania is ranked 24th among 40 European countries, although specific data for India is not available. The murder rates are similar, with Lithuania at 2.6 per 100,000 people and India at 2.9. However, Lithuania has lower female murder rates (1.5) compared to India (2.5). When looking at organized crime, both countries have the same score for mafia groups (3.5), but Lithuania generally scores better in various crime categories, such as human trafficking (3.5 in Lithuania vs. 7.0 in India) and arms trafficking (2.5 in Lithuania vs. 5.5 in India). Overall, while no place is completely free of risk, Lithuania offers a safer environment for tourists compared to India, making it a viable destination for travelers.
