Italy is an appealing destination for some Ethiopians due to its rich history and culture. The country's iconic cities like Rome, Venice, and Florence, along with its stunning landscapes, attract millions of international visitors each year. This allure may resonate with a segment of Ethiopia's 123 million population.
Italy is generally considered a safe destination for tourists, including those from Ethiopia. According to the Global Peace Index, Italy ranks 33rd out of 160 countries, indicating a relatively high level of safety, especially compared to Ethiopia, which ranks 142nd. In terms of crime statistics, Italy has a significantly lower murder rate of 0.5 per 100,000 people, compared to Ethiopia's rate of 8.8. While Italy faces challenges with organized crime, as reflected in the Global Organized Crime Index, it remains safer than Ethiopia in many aspects. Overall, while travelers should exercise standard precautions, Italy is a safer option for tourists compared to Ethiopia.
