Ethiopia offers a unique blend of rich culture and historical landmarks, making it an appealing destination for some Italian travelers. With 12.4 million Italians traveling abroad annually, a portion may find Ethiopia's cultural and adventure tourism attractive.
Ethiopia presents some safety concerns for tourists, especially when compared to Italy. While Italy ranks 33rd in the Global Peace Index, Ethiopia is significantly lower at 142nd out of 160 countries. The murder rate in Ethiopia is notably higher at 8.8 per 100,000 people, compared to Italy's low rate of 0.5. Additionally, the Global Organized Crime Index indicates that while mafia influence is lower in Ethiopia (2.0) compared to Italy (9.0), other crime categories show a mixed picture. For instance, Ethiopia has higher indices for crime networks (6.5) and arms trafficking (7.0) than Italy. Overall, while Ethiopia has its attractions, tourists from Italy should be cautious and stay informed about safety conditions when planning their visit.
