Egypt is an appealing destination for some Ethiopians, given its rich history and cultural significance. Despite recent fluctuations in its tourism sector, Egypt continues to attract millions of visitors annually, making it a key player in the economy and a platform for cultural exchange.
Egypt is generally considered safer for tourists compared to Ethiopia. According to the Global Peace Index, Egypt ranks 103rd out of 160 countries, while Ethiopia ranks 142nd. The murder rate in Egypt is significantly lower at 2.6 per 100,000 people, compared to Ethiopia's 8.8. In terms of organized crime, Egypt has a lower score for mafia groups (3.0 vs. Ethiopia's 2.0) and crime networks (5.5 vs. Ethiopia's 6.5). However, state crime is higher in Egypt (8.0) compared to Ethiopia (4.0). Overall, while both countries have challenges, the statistics suggest that Egypt presents a relatively safer environment for tourists, including those coming from Ethiopia.
