Ethiopia offers a rich cultural heritage and historical landmarks, making it an appealing destination for some Egyptians. The country's diverse tourism options, including cultural, adventure, and business experiences, cater to various interests within Egypt's large population of 111 million.
Ethiopia's safety for tourists, particularly those coming from Egypt, presents some concerns. The Global Peace Index ranks Ethiopia 142nd out of 160 countries, indicating a lower safety level compared to Egypt, which ranks 103rd. In terms of crime statistics, the murder rate in Ethiopia is significantly higher at 8.8 per 100,000 people, compared to Egypt's 2.6. While organized crime indices show that Ethiopia has lower ratings for mafia groups (2.0 vs. Egypt's 3.0), it also exhibits higher crime network scores (6.5 vs. 5.5 for Egypt) and similar levels of arms trafficking (7.0 for both countries). Overall, while Ethiopia has certain aspects of organized crime that may be less severe than in Egypt, the higher murder rate and overall safety ranking suggest that tourists should exercise caution when visiting Ethiopia.
