Belgium offers a compelling mix of cultural heritage and modern attractions, making it an appealing destination for some Saudi visitors. With millions of Saudis traveling abroad annually, a portion may find the historical sites and vibrant cities like Brussels, Bruges, and Antwerp particularly enticing.
Belgium is generally considered safe for tourists, including those from Saudi Arabia. According to the Global Peace Index, Belgium ranks 16th out of 160 countries, indicating a high level of safety. However, it ranks 39th in terms of safety while walking alone at night among 40 European countries, which suggests some caution is advisable. In terms of crime statistics, Belgium has a murder rate of 1.1 per 100,000 people, slightly higher than Saudi Arabia's rate of 0.8. Female murder rates are lower in Belgium (0.2) compared to Saudi Arabia (0.3). The Global Organized Crime Index shows that both countries have similar scores for mafia groups (3.0), but Belgium generally has lower indices for various types of crime, indicating a relatively safer environment. For instance, Belgium scores better in state crime (2.0) and has lower scores in human trafficking and smuggling compared to Saudi Arabia. Overall, while there are some safety concerns, Belgium is considered safer than Saudi Arabia in many respects, making it a viable destination for tourists.
