Zimbabwe offers a rich cultural heritage and stunning natural landscapes, making it an appealing destination for some of Zambia's 20 million residents. Attractions like Victoria Falls and the historical site of Great Zimbabwe highlight its diverse tourism options, despite a recent drop in foreign visitor numbers.
Zimbabwe's safety for tourists, particularly those coming from Zambia, presents some concerns. According to the Global Peace Index, Zimbabwe ranks 119th out of 160 countries, significantly lower than Zambia, which ranks 55th. The murder rate in Zimbabwe is 6.1 per 100,000 people, slightly higher than Zambia's rate of 5.4. In terms of organized crime, Zimbabwe has higher indices in various categories compared to Zambia, with crime networks rated at 7.5 for Zimbabwe versus 5.0 for Zambia, and state crime rated at 8.0 for Zimbabwe compared to 6.0 for Zambia. While both countries face challenges related to crime, Zambia generally has a more favorable safety profile for tourists. Overall, while many tourists visit Zimbabwe without incident, it's advisable to stay informed about local conditions and exercise caution.
