Yemen offers a unique appeal for some Saudi visitors due to its rich history and stunning landscapes. Despite facing challenges, it remains an intriguing option for a portion of the 4.8 million Saudis who travel abroad annually.
Yemen is currently considered very unsafe for tourists, especially compared to Saudi Arabia. According to the Global Peace Index, Yemen ranks last globally at 160th, while Saudi Arabia is ranked 100th. The murder rate in Yemen is significantly higher at 6.8 per 100,000 people, compared to Saudi Arabia's 0.8. Additionally, the Global Organized Crime Index indicates that Yemen faces severe challenges with organized crime, with indices indicating a much worse situation than in Saudi Arabia across various categories. For example, Yemen scores 8.0 for mafia groups and 9.0 for arms trafficking, while Saudi Arabia scores 3.0 and 8.0 respectively. Overall, the security situation in Yemen poses considerable risks for tourists, making it advisable to avoid travel to the country.
