Ukraine offers a rich cultural and historical experience, making it an appealing destination for some Portuguese travelers. With around 1 million Portuguese traveling abroad annually, a portion may find Ukraine an interesting option for their travels.
Ukraine currently poses safety concerns for tourists, including those from Portugal. While Portugal ranks 7th in the Global Peace Index and has a low murder rate of 0.8 per 100,000 people, Ukraine ranks 156th out of 160 countries with a higher murder rate of 3.8. Crime statistics indicate that Ukraine faces significant challenges, including higher rates of organized crime and state crime, with indices indicating a more dangerous environment compared to Portugal. For instance, Ukraine's organized crime index is rated at 6.0, while Portugal's is 4.5. Overall, potential tourists from Portugal should exercise caution and stay informed about the current safety situation in Ukraine before planning their visit.
