Ukraine offers a rich cultural and historical experience, making it an appealing destination for some Polish travelers. With 6.2 million Poles traveling abroad annually, a portion of them may find Ukraine an interesting place to visit.
Ukraine's safety for tourists, particularly those coming from Poland, is a concern based on various safety rankings and crime statistics. While Poland ranks 32nd in the Global Peace Index, Ukraine is significantly lower at 156th out of 160 countries. In terms of murder rates, Poland has a rate of 0.7 per 100,000 people, whereas Ukraine's is notably higher at 3.8. Female murder rates also reflect this disparity, with Poland at 0.4 and Ukraine at 1.9. The Global Organized Crime Index further illustrates the safety gap, with Poland scoring better across various categories, such as mafia presence (Poland 2.0 vs. Ukraine 6.0) and state crime (Poland 3.5 vs. Ukraine 8.0). Overall, while some tourists may still visit Ukraine, they should be aware of the heightened risks compared to Poland and take necessary precautions.
