Ukraine offers a rich cultural and historical experience, making it an appealing destination for some of the 2 million residents of North Macedonia. In recent years, it has attracted a notable number of international visitors, positioning itself as a significant player in global tourism.
Ukraine's safety for tourists, including those from North Macedonia, is a concern. While North Macedonia ranks 38th in safety according to the Global Peace Index, Ukraine is significantly lower at 156th out of 160 countries. Crime statistics indicate higher murder rates in Ukraine, with 3.8 murders per 100,000 people compared to North Macedonia's 1.2. Additionally, Ukraine faces challenges with organized crime, scoring worse on various indices related to mafia activity, state crime, and human trafficking. Overall, while North Macedonia is considered relatively safe, Ukraine presents more risks for tourists, and caution is advised when traveling there.
