North Macedonia offers a unique blend of cultural heritage and natural beauty, making it an appealing destination for some Ukrainian travelers. Although it doesn't attract as many tourists as other European countries, its rich history and scenic landscapes can entice a portion of the 11 million Ukrainians who travel abroad annually.
North Macedonia is generally considered a safe destination for tourists, including those from Ukraine. It ranks 17th among 40 European countries for safety while walking alone at night. According to the Global Peace Index, North Macedonia is ranked 38th out of 160 countries, significantly safer than Ukraine, which is ranked 156th. In terms of crime statistics, North Macedonia has a lower murder rate of 1.2 per 100,000 people compared to Ukraine's rate of 3.8. Female murder rates also reflect this trend, with North Macedonia at 0.4 and Ukraine at 1.9. Regarding organized crime, North Macedonia generally has better indices than Ukraine in several categories, such as mafia groups (4.0 vs. 6.0) and arms trafficking (4.5 vs. 8.0). Overall, while no place is without risk, North Macedonia is a safer option for tourists compared to Ukraine.
