Ukraine offers a rich cultural and historical experience, making it an appealing destination for some of Montenegro's one million residents. The country has seen a rise in international tourism, positioning itself as a notable option for travelers.
Ukraine's safety for tourists, particularly those coming from Montenegro, presents some concerns. While Montenegro ranks 10th in safety for walking alone at night among 40 European countries, there is no comparable data for Ukraine. The Global Peace Index places Ukraine at 156th out of 160 countries, indicating a significantly lower safety level compared to Montenegro, which ranks 35th. In terms of crime statistics, Ukraine has a higher murder rate of 3.8 per 100,000 people, compared to Montenegro's 2.4. Additionally, female murder rates are also higher in Ukraine (1.9) than in Montenegro (0.6). The Global Organized Crime Index further highlights differences, with Ukraine scoring worse in several categories, including state crime (8.0 for Ukraine vs. 7.5 for Montenegro) and human trafficking (7.0 for Ukraine vs. 4.5 for Montenegro). Overall, while tourists can visit Ukraine, they should be aware of the higher risks compared to Montenegro and take necessary precautions.
