Ukraine offers a rich cultural and historical experience, making it an appealing destination for some Irish travelers. With 2.3 million Irish citizens traveling abroad annually, a portion may find Ukraine an interesting option to explore.
Ukraine currently poses significant safety concerns for tourists, including those from Ireland. According to the Global Peace Index, Ukraine is ranked 156th out of 160 countries, indicating a lower safety level compared to Ireland, which ranks 2nd. Crime statistics further highlight the disparity: Ukraine has a murder rate of 3.8 per 100,000 people, compared to Ireland's 0.4. Additionally, Ukraine faces challenges with organized crime, as indicated by various indices where it scores higher (worse) than Ireland in categories such as state crime (8.0 vs. 3.0) and human trafficking (7.0 vs. 4.5). Overall, while travel is possible, potential tourists should exercise caution and stay informed about the current situation in Ukraine.
