Turkmenistan offers a unique and exclusive travel experience, characterized by its understated charm and potential for discovery. The country features a limited but quality-focused selection of accommodations, with a notable proportion of 4 and 5-star hotels. This makes it an appealing option for a segment of the 11 million Ukrainians who travel abroad annually, as some may find the allure of Turkmenistan intriguing.
Turkmenistan is generally considered a relatively safe destination for tourists, including those from Ukraine. According to the Global Peace Index, Turkmenistan ranks 80th out of 160 countries, while Ukraine ranks significantly lower at 156th. In terms of crime statistics, the murder rate in Turkmenistan is slightly higher at 4.2 per 100,000 people compared to Ukraine's 3.8. However, organized crime indices show that Turkmenistan has lower scores in several categories, indicating less organized crime activity compared to Ukraine. For example, Turkmenistan scores 3.0 for mafia groups and 3.5 for crime networks, while Ukraine scores 6.0 and 7.0, respectively. Overall, while no destination is without risk, Turkmenistan presents a safer environment for tourists compared to Ukraine based on the available data.
