Syria offers a unique blend of historical significance and natural beauty, making it an intriguing option for some Russian travelers. With 12.4 million Russians traveling internationally each year, a portion may find Syria appealing despite its complex history.
Syria is generally considered unsafe for tourists, including those from Russia. According to the Global Peace Index, Syria ranks 153rd out of 160 countries, indicating a high level of violence and instability. In comparison, Russia ranks 154th. While Syria has a lower murder rate (2.2 per 100,000) compared to Russia (6.8), the overall safety environment is concerning due to significant organized crime and state-related crime issues. The Global Organized Crime Index shows that Syria scores poorly in various crime categories, with a score of 10.0 for state crime and 9.0 for crime networks, suggesting a high prevalence of organized crime. In contrast, Russia has lower scores in these areas. Given these factors, potential tourists should exercise extreme caution and consider the risks before traveling to Syria.
