Russia offers a diverse range of cultural and natural attractions, making it an intriguing destination for some of the 21 million Syrians. While it receives around 6.4 million foreign visitors each year, its appeal lies more in the variety of experiences available than in sheer visitor numbers.
Russia's safety for tourists from Syria can be assessed through various rankings and statistics. According to safety rankings, Russia is 30th among 40 European countries for safety while walking alone at night, but it is ranked 154th out of 160 countries in the Global Peace Index, similar to Syria, which is ranked 153rd. In terms of crime rates, Russia has a higher murder rate of 6.8 per 100,000 people compared to Syria's 2.2. Additionally, Russia has notable indices for organized crime, with a score of 4.5 for mafia groups (same as Syria) and a score of 7.5 for crime networks, indicating a significant presence of organized crime. Overall, while tourists from Syria may find some aspects of safety in Russia comparable to their home country, the higher murder rate and organized crime indices suggest that caution is advisable when traveling.
