Sweden offers a unique appeal to visitors from Suriname, featuring stunning landscapes and lively cities supported by a strong tourism infrastructure. While it attracts a modest number of international tourists, it stands out as a niche destination known for quality experiences. This makes it an intriguing option for a segment of Suriname's population of approximately one million.
Sweden is generally considered safe for tourists, including those from Suriname. It ranks 39th out of 160 countries on the Global Peace Index, indicating a relatively peaceful environment. However, it is ranked 36th among 40 European countries regarding safety while walking alone at night, which suggests some caution may be warranted. In terms of crime statistics, Sweden has a significantly lower murder rate at 1.1 per 100,000 people compared to Suriname's 5.7. Additionally, Sweden scores better on various organized crime indices, particularly in areas like state crime and resource crime. While no specific data exists for the safety of Surinamese tourists in Sweden, the overall crime rates and safety rankings suggest that Sweden is a safe destination for travelers.
