Saudi Arabia is increasingly appealing to visitors from Jordan due to its rich cultural heritage and important religious sites. As the country invests in tourism infrastructure to diversify its economy, it offers a variety of attractions that may interest some of the 800,000 Jordanians who travel abroad annually.
Saudi Arabia's safety for tourists coming from Jordan can be assessed through various indices. According to the Global Peace Index, Saudi Arabia ranks 100th out of 160 countries, which indicates a lower level of safety compared to Jordan, which ranks 65th. In terms of murder rates, Saudi Arabia has a rate of 0.8 per 100,000 people, slightly lower than Jordan's rate of 1.0. Female murder rates also show a similar trend, with Jordan at 0.6 and Saudi Arabia at 0.3. The Global Organized Crime Index provides further insights, with Saudi Arabia scoring higher (indicating worse conditions) in several categories compared to Jordan. For instance, Saudi Arabia has a state crime index of 8.0, while Jordan's is 6.5. Additionally, human trafficking and smuggling rates are notably higher in Saudi Arabia, with scores of 8.5 and 7.5, respectively, compared to Jordan's 6.5 and 5.5. Overall, while Saudi Arabia has a relatively low murder rate, the higher organized crime indices suggest that tourists should remain vigilant and informed about their safety while visiting.
