Saudi Arabia offers a rich cultural heritage and important religious sites, making it an increasingly attractive destination for Indian visitors. With ongoing investments in tourism infrastructure as part of its economic diversification strategy, it appeals to a segment of the 8.6 million Indians who travel abroad annually.
Saudi Arabia is generally considered safe for tourists, including those from India. According to the Global Peace Index, Saudi Arabia ranks 100th out of 160 countries, which is better than India's 114th position. The murder rate in Saudi Arabia is significantly lower at 0.8 per 100,000 people, compared to India's 2.9. While both countries face challenges related to organized crime, Saudi Arabia has a lower index for mafia groups (3.0 vs. 3.5 in India) and foreign crime (3.0 vs. 3.5). However, it is important to note that state crime and human trafficking indices are higher in Saudi Arabia (8.0 and 8.5, respectively) compared to India. Overall, while there are some concerns, Saudi Arabia presents a safer environment for tourists in terms of violent crime compared to India.
