Russia offers a diverse range of cultural and natural attractions that can appeal to Norwegian visitors. While it attracts around 6.4 million foreign tourists annually, its allure lies in the variety of experiences available. Among the 1.7 million Norwegians who travel abroad each year, there is potential interest in visiting Russia.

Please answer the following question: How safe is Russia for tourists coming from Norway?

Russia presents a different safety landscape for tourists compared to Norway. In terms of safety while walking alone at night, Russia ranks 30th out of 40 countries, significantly lower than Norway's 18th position. The Global Peace Index also reflects this disparity, with Russia ranked 154th out of 160 countries, while Norway holds the 28th spot. Crime statistics further illustrate the differences: Norway has a murder rate of 0.5 per 100,000 people, compared to Russia's 6.8. Female murder rates show a similar trend, with Norway at 0.6 and Russia at 3.3. The Global Organized Crime Index indicates higher levels of organized crime in Russia, with indices suggesting more severe issues in areas such as state crime (Russia 8.5 vs. Norway 2.0) and crime networks (Russia 7.5 vs. Norway 4.0). Overall, while tourists can visit Russia, they should be aware of these safety concerns and exercise caution.
