Russia offers a unique blend of cultural and natural attractions that can appeal to a segment of Mauritania's population of 5 million. While it receives around 6.4 million foreign visitors each year, its appeal lies in the diversity of experiences available, making it an intriguing option for some Mauritanians.
Russia presents certain safety concerns for tourists coming from Mauritania. According to safety rankings, Russia is 30th among 40 European countries for safety while walking alone at night, which indicates a moderate level of safety. However, the Global Peace Index ranks Russia 154th out of 160 countries, highlighting significant safety issues compared to Mauritania, which ranks 93rd. In terms of crime statistics, the murder rate in Russia is notably higher at 6.8 per 100,000 people, compared to Mauritania's low rate of 1.0. Additionally, organized crime indices suggest that Russia faces more severe challenges with crime networks and state crime, scoring worse than Mauritania in several categories. Overall, while tourists can visit Russia, they should remain vigilant and informed about local safety conditions, as the country presents more risks compared to Mauritania.
