Romania has emerged as an appealing destination in the global tourism scene, offering a unique mix of cultural charm, historical depth, and varied natural beauty. With around 6.8 million foreign tourists annually, it ranks highly in regional tourism, drawing visitors to its medieval towns, gothic castles, and the stunning Carpathian Mountains. Given that approximately 700,000 Lithuanians travel abroad each year, a portion of them may find Romania an attractive option for their travels.
Romania is generally considered a safe destination for tourists, including those from Lithuania. It ranks 19th out of 40 countries for safety while walking alone at night, which is better than Lithuania's ranking of 24th. According to the Global Peace Index, Romania is ranked 36th out of 160 countries, similar to Lithuania's 31st position. In terms of crime statistics, Romania has a lower murder rate at 1.3 per 100,000 people compared to Lithuania's 2.6. For female murders, the rates are also lower in Romania (0.8) than in Lithuania (1.5). Regarding organized crime, Romania scores slightly higher than Lithuania in some areas, such as human trafficking and crime networks, but overall, both countries face challenges. In summary, Romania is a relatively safe country for Lithuanian tourists, with lower murder rates and a comparable safety ranking. However, travelers should remain aware of their surroundings and exercise standard precautions.
