Lithuania is an appealing destination for some Romanian travelers, offering a unique range of attractions within the Baltic region. While it may not attract the same volume of tourists as larger European destinations, it has the potential to capture the interest of a portion of the 11.6 million Romanians who travel abroad annually.
Lithuania is generally considered a safe destination for tourists, including those coming from Romania. While it ranks 24th out of 40 countries for safety while walking alone at night, which is lower than Romania's 19th position, it is still viewed as a relatively safe country overall. According to the Global Peace Index, Lithuania ranks 31st out of 160 countries, compared to Romania's 36th position, indicating comparable safety levels. In terms of crime statistics, Lithuania has a higher murder rate (2.6 per 100,000 people) than Romania (1.3), and the rates of female murders are also higher in Lithuania (1.5) compared to Romania (0.8). However, organized crime indices suggest that Lithuania has a slightly better standing in various crime categories, such as human trafficking and smuggling. Overall, while there are some differences in safety rankings and crime rates, Lithuania remains a safe option for tourists. Visitors should always exercise common sense and stay aware of their surroundings, as they would in any foreign country.
