Portugal is a vibrant destination known for its cultural richness and natural beauty, appealing to many tourists worldwide. Recent trends show a gradual increase in foreign tourist arrivals, highlighting its enduring attractiveness. For a segment of Mozambique's 33 million population, Portugal presents an appealing travel option.
Portugal is generally considered a safe destination for tourists, including those coming from Mozambique. It ranks 7th out of 160 countries on the Global Peace Index, indicating a high level of safety. In terms of walking alone at night, Portugal is ranked 15th among 40 European countries. When comparing crime statistics, Portugal has a significantly lower murder rate of 0.8 per 100,000 people, compared to Mozambique's 3.5. Additionally, organized crime indices suggest that Portugal has a better overall safety profile, with lower scores in areas such as crime networks and state crime. While no data is available specifically for Mozambique in some categories, the overall evidence suggests that tourists from Mozambique can expect a safer environment in Portugal.
