Mozambique offers a unique appeal for Portuguese visitors, featuring beautiful coastlines along the Indian Ocean and a rich cultural heritage. While it currently attracts a modest number of foreign tourists, its blend of natural beauty and cultural experiences is becoming increasingly attractive. With around 1 million Portuguese traveling abroad annually, a portion may find Mozambique an interesting destination.
Mozambique presents certain safety concerns for tourists, particularly when compared to Portugal. While Portugal ranks 15th in safety among European countries, Mozambique is ranked 106th out of 160 countries on the Global Peace Index, indicating a higher level of risk. In terms of crime statistics, Portugal has a murder rate of 0.8 per 100,000 people, while Mozambique's rate is significantly higher at 3.5. Additionally, organized crime indices show that Mozambique faces challenges with crime networks and state crime, scoring worse than Portugal in these areas. Overall, while many tourists visit Mozambique and enjoy their experiences, it is advisable for travelers from Portugal to remain vigilant and informed about their surroundings.
