Nepal is an appealing destination for some American travelers due to its rich culture and stunning natural landscapes in the Himalayas. However, the country has faced challenges in attracting a consistent flow of international visitors. With 33.5 million Americans traveling abroad annually, a portion may find Nepal to be an intriguing choice.
Nepal is generally considered a safe destination for tourists from the United States. According to the Global Peace Index, Nepal ranks 78th out of 160 countries, which is significantly better than the United States, ranked 130th. In terms of crime statistics, Nepal has a murder rate of 2.1 per 100,000 people, compared to the United States, which has a rate of 6.8. Additionally, various organized crime indices indicate that while both countries face challenges, Nepal tends to have lower scores in specific crime categories, such as the heroin trade and cocaine trade. Overall, while no destination is entirely without risk, Nepal is relatively safer for tourists compared to the United States.
