Nepal is an appealing destination for many Indian travelers due to its rich culture and stunning natural scenery. Despite facing challenges in attracting consistent international visitors, it remains a viable option for a portion of the 8.6 million Indians who travel abroad annually.
Nepal is generally considered a safe destination for tourists from India. According to the Global Peace Index, Nepal ranks 78th out of 160 countries, which is significantly better than India’s ranking of 114th. In terms of crime statistics, Nepal has a lower murder rate of 2.1 per 100,000 people compared to India's 2.9. Additionally, the Global Organized Crime Index indicates that while both countries face challenges, Nepal has lower indices for certain crime categories, such as the heroin trade (4.5 in Nepal vs. 6.5 in India) and cocaine trade (3.5 in both countries). Overall, while no place is without risks, tourists from India can feel relatively safe while visiting Nepal.
