Nigeria offers a unique blend of culture and natural beauty, making it an intriguing option for some Mexican travelers. While the country attracts a moderate number of tourists overall, a portion of the 7.3 million Mexicans who travel abroad annually may find Nigeria appealing.
Nigeria presents certain safety concerns for tourists, including those from Mexico. According to the Global Peace Index, Nigeria ranks 144th out of 160 countries, indicating a lower safety level compared to Mexico, which ranks 136th. In terms of crime statistics, the murder rate in Nigeria is 22.0 per 100,000 people, which is lower than Mexico's rate of 28.2. However, organized crime remains a significant issue in both countries, with Nigeria scoring 5.5 for mafia groups and 9.0 for crime networks, similar to Mexico's scores. Overall, while Nigeria has a lower murder rate, the overall safety environment is more challenging compared to Mexico, and travelers should exercise caution and stay informed about local conditions.
