Mexico offers a rich cultural heritage and stunning natural landscapes, making it an appealing choice for international tourists seeking leisure, adventure, and wellness. Its diverse tourism sector caters to various traveler preferences, solidifying its status as a top global destination. Consequently, it could attract a segment of Nigeria's population of 219 million.
Mexico presents a mixed safety profile for tourists, including those from Nigeria. According to the Global Peace Index, Mexico ranks 136th out of 160 countries, which is better than Nigeria's ranking of 144th. In terms of crime statistics, the murder rate in Mexico is 28.2 per 100,000 people, compared to Nigeria's 22.0. Notably, Mexico has a female murder rate of 6.2, while data for Nigeria is not available. The Global Organized Crime Index further illustrates the challenges, with Mexico scoring 9.0 for mafia groups and 9.0 for crime networks, indicating a significant presence of organized crime. In contrast, Nigeria scores 5.5 for mafia groups and 9.0 for crime networks. While Mexico is generally safer than Nigeria according to these rankings, it is important for tourists to remain vigilant and informed about specific regions and current safety conditions when traveling.
