Nigeria offers a unique blend of vibrant culture and natural beauty, making it an intriguing option for some Indian travelers. While the country experiences moderate tourist arrivals overall, it could attract a segment of the 8.6 million Indians who travel abroad annually.
Nigeria presents certain safety concerns for tourists, including those from India. According to the Global Peace Index, Nigeria ranks 144th out of 160 countries, indicating a lower safety level compared to India, which ranks 114th. In terms of crime statistics, Nigeria has a significantly higher murder rate of 22.0 per 100,000 people, compared to India's rate of 2.9. The Global Organized Crime Index also reveals that Nigeria faces challenges with organized crime, scoring worse than India in several categories, such as crime networks (Nigeria: 9.0 vs. India: 6.0) and arms trafficking (Nigeria: 8.0 vs. India: 5.5). Overall, while tourism is possible in Nigeria, travelers should exercise caution and stay informed about local conditions and safety measures.
