Nigeria is a vibrant and diverse country with a rich cultural heritage and beautiful natural landscapes, making it an intriguing option for some British travelers. However, it currently attracts a moderate number of tourists. Among the 19.1 million Britons who travel abroad annually, a portion may find Nigeria appealing as a travel destination.
Nigeria's safety for tourists from the United Kingdom is a concern. The UK ranks 34th in the Global Peace Index, while Nigeria is significantly lower at 144th out of 160 countries. The murder rate in Nigeria is notably high at 22.0 per 100,000 people, compared to just 1.0 in the UK. Additionally, various crime indices indicate that Nigeria faces challenges with organized crime, human trafficking, and arms trafficking, with higher scores indicating worse conditions compared to the UK. While many tourists do visit Nigeria, it is essential for travelers to stay informed about local conditions and exercise caution.
