Nigeria is a vibrant and diverse nation with a rich cultural heritage and beautiful landscapes, making it an appealing destination for some of the 28 million Cameroonians. However, it currently experiences a moderate level of tourist arrivals.
Nigeria's safety for tourists, particularly those coming from Cameroon, is a concern. According to the Global Peace Index, Nigeria ranks 144th out of 160 countries, indicating a lower safety level compared to Cameroon, which ranks 135th. In terms of crime statistics, Nigeria has a significantly higher murder rate of 22.0 per 100,000 people, compared to Cameroon's 4.5. Additionally, the Global Organized Crime Index shows that Nigeria generally has higher indices for various types of crime, including organized crime (5.5 for Nigeria vs. 4.0 for Cameroon) and crime networks (9.0 for Nigeria vs. 7.5 for Cameroon). Overall, while tourism is possible in Nigeria, potential visitors should be aware of the safety challenges and consider taking precautions.
