Mozambique offers a unique appeal for Ethiopian visitors, featuring beautiful coastlines along the Indian Ocean and a rich cultural heritage. While it attracts a limited number of foreign tourists annually, its blend of natural beauty and cultural vibrancy makes it an intriguing option for a segment of Ethiopia's 123 million population.
Mozambique is generally considered safer for tourists compared to Ethiopia. According to the Global Peace Index, Mozambique ranks 106th out of 160 countries, while Ethiopia is ranked 142nd. The murder rate in Mozambique is significantly lower at 3.5 per 100,000 people, compared to Ethiopia's rate of 8.8. In terms of organized crime, Mozambique has higher indices in certain areas, but overall, many crime categories show Ethiopia as having more severe issues. For example, Mozambique scores 9.0 for state crime, while Ethiopia scores 4.0. However, Mozambique has a lower score for human trafficking (4.0) compared to Ethiopia (6.0). While both countries have their challenges, Mozambique presents a relatively safer environment for tourists from Ethiopia. Travelers should remain vigilant and informed about local conditions.
