Malta is an appealing destination for American travelers due to its central Mediterranean location and rich historical and cultural offerings. Annually, it attracts around one million international visitors, suggesting it has potential to capture the interest of a segment of the 33.5 million Americans who travel abroad each year.
Malta is generally considered safe for tourists from the United States. It has a low murder rate of 0.4 per 100,000 people compared to the U.S. rate of 6.8. Additionally, Malta ranks better in organized crime indices, with lower scores in areas such as mafia presence and arms trafficking. While Malta is ranked 26th among 40 European countries for safety when walking alone at night, the U.S. ranks 130th globally in the Global Peace Index. Overall, the crime statistics suggest that Malta offers a safer environment for tourists compared to the United States.
