Malta offers a compelling mix of history, culture, and modern tourism, making it an intriguing destination for some Bahamians. Its central Mediterranean location and abundance of historical sites attract about one million international visitors annually, suggesting it could appeal to a segment of the Bahamian population.
Malta is generally considered safe for tourists, including those from the Bahamas. It ranks 26th out of 40 European countries for safety while walking alone at night, although there is no specific safety data for the Bahamas. In terms of crime statistics, Malta has a significantly lower murder rate of 0.4 per 100,000 people compared to the Bahamas, which has a murder rate of 29.2. Additionally, there are no recorded female murders in Malta, while the Bahamas reports a rate of 2.8. When looking at organized crime, Malta has lower indices in several categories compared to the Bahamas, indicating a relatively safer environment. For example, Malta scores 1.5 for mafia groups, while the Bahamas scores 3.5. Overall, while no destination is without risks, Malta's crime statistics suggest it is a safer option for tourists.
