Myanmar offers a rich cultural heritage and stunning landscapes, making it an appealing destination for Indian travelers. With 8.6 million Indians traveling abroad annually, a portion may find Myanmar an intriguing option, contributing to the country's growing tourism sector and economic vitality.
Myanmar is currently considered less safe for tourists compared to India. According to the Global Peace Index, Myanmar ranks 145th out of 160 countries, while India is ranked 114th. The murder rate in Myanmar is significantly higher, at 28.4 per 100,000 people, compared to India's rate of 2.9. Additionally, the Global Organized Crime Index indicates that Myanmar has higher scores in various crime categories, such as mafia groups (9.0 vs. 3.5 in India) and human trafficking (6.5 vs. 7.0 in India). Overall, while many tourists visit Myanmar, potential travelers should be aware of the safety concerns and stay informed about the current situation.
