Libya offers a unique and under-explored tourism experience with its diverse landscapes, rich historical sites, and beautiful Mediterranean coastline. While the tourism infrastructure is developing and hospitality services are selective, it could attract a segment of the 11 million Ukrainians who travel abroad annually.
Libya's safety for tourists, including those from Ukraine, is a complex issue. According to the Global Peace Index, Libya ranks 126th out of 160 countries, which is relatively safer than Ukraine, ranked 156th. While specific murder rates for Libya are not available, Ukraine has a murder rate of 3.8 per 100,000 people, with a female murder rate of 1.9. In terms of organized crime, Libya scores worse than Ukraine in several areas, with mafia groups rated 8.0 in Libya compared to 6.0 in Ukraine, and human trafficking rated 9.5 in Libya versus 7.0 in Ukraine. Overall, while Libya is statistically safer than Ukraine in some respects, the presence of organized crime and other safety concerns suggest that caution is advised for tourists considering travel to Libya.
