Lithuania presents a unique appeal for Croatian travelers, offering a variety of attractions that can attract a segment of the 600,000 Croats who travel abroad annually. While it may not rival larger European tourist destinations, its vibrant culture and distinct experiences make it an intriguing option for some visitors from Croatia.
Lithuania is generally safe for tourists, but it has some differences in safety compared to Croatia. According to safety rankings, Lithuania is 24th out of 40 countries for safety while walking alone at night, which is lower than Croatia, ranked as the safest. The Global Peace Index places Lithuania at 31st out of 160 countries, while Croatia ranks 15th. In terms of crime statistics, Lithuania has a higher murder rate at 2.6 per 100,000 people compared to Croatia's 0.8. Female murder rates also reflect this trend, with Lithuania at 1.5 and Croatia at 0.7. Regarding organized crime, Lithuania scores slightly better in some areas, such as mafia groups (3.5 for Lithuania vs. 4.0 for Croatia), but it has higher scores in other crime categories, indicating a more significant presence of certain types of crime. Overall, while Lithuania is relatively safe, tourists from Croatia may find it less secure than their home country. It's advisable to stay informed and take standard safety precautions while traveling.
