Lithuania stands out as an appealing destination for some Belarusian travelers. With around 500,000 Belarusians traveling abroad annually, a portion is likely to be drawn to Lithuania's unique attractions, despite the country not experiencing the same level of tourist arrivals as larger European destinations.
Lithuania is generally considered safe for tourists, including those coming from Belarus. In terms of safety while walking alone at night, Lithuania ranks 24th out of 40 countries, which is significantly better than Belarus, which ranks 38th. Additionally, the Global Peace Index places Lithuania 31st out of 160 countries, again indicating a safer environment compared to Belarus, ranked 110th. Regarding crime statistics, the murder rates are relatively close, with Belarus at 2.4 per 100,000 people and Lithuania at 2.6. However, Lithuania has lower female murder rates (1.5) compared to Belarus (1.7). The Global Organized Crime Index also reflects a safer landscape in Lithuania, with lower indices across various crime categories. For example, Lithuania scores better in areas such as human trafficking and arms trafficking, indicating a lower prevalence of organized crime compared to Belarus. Overall, while no place is without risk, Lithuania is safer than Belarus in several key areas, making it a relatively secure destination for tourists.
