Sri Lanka presents an appealing travel option for visitors from Seychelles, thanks to its rich cultural heritage and beautiful landscapes. The island's tropical beaches and UNESCO World Heritage Sites are likely to attract some of the approximately 100,000 Seychellois who travel abroad annually.
Sri Lanka is generally considered safe for tourists, including those from Seychelles. According to the Global Peace Index, Sri Lanka ranks 99th out of 160 countries, indicating a moderate level of safety. In terms of crime statistics, the murder rate in Sri Lanka is lower than that of Seychelles, with 3.5 per 100,000 people compared to Seychelles' 4.7. Female murder rates also show a similar trend, with Sri Lanka at 2.2 versus Seychelles at 5.4. The Global Organized Crime Index suggests that while Sri Lanka has higher scores in some areas of organized crime (state crime at 7.0 and human trafficking at 5.5), it also has lower scores in others, such as foreign crime (2.5) and flora crime (3.0). Overall, while there are some concerns regarding organized crime, many tourists visit Sri Lanka without incident, and standard precautions should be taken as with travel to any destination.
