Sri Lanka is an appealing travel destination for some Mexican tourists, thanks to its rich cultural heritage and beautiful landscapes. With 7.3 million Mexicans traveling internationally each year, a portion may find the island's tropical beaches and UNESCO World Heritage Sites particularly attractive.
Sri Lanka is generally considered safer for tourists compared to Mexico. According to the Global Peace Index, Sri Lanka ranks 99th out of 160 countries, while Mexico is ranked 136th. The murder rate in Sri Lanka is significantly lower, with 3.5 per 100,000 people compared to Mexico's 28.2. Additionally, the Global Organized Crime Index indicates that Sri Lanka has lower scores in various crime categories compared to Mexico, suggesting a lesser presence of organized crime. For instance, Sri Lanka scores 4.0 for mafia groups and 5.0 for crime networks, while Mexico scores 9.0 in both categories. Overall, tourists from Mexico can feel relatively safe visiting Sri Lanka, but, as with any travel, it is advisable to stay informed and take standard safety precautions.
